The official arrival ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan

The official arrival ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan – the Presidential Residence- on the morning of November 8. Thirty-six Presidential Bodyguards- mounted on horseback and carrying tall standards--escorted the Presidential limousine from the palace gates across the vast grounds. The President was welcomed with a 21-gun salute. He reviewed Indian troops during the ceremony.


Soon after the arrival ceremony they went to Raj Ghat, a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, where they laid a wreath.

A joint news conference on Monday with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, second from left, at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and President Obama held a joint news conference ay Hyderabad House and issued a joint statement on expanding and strengthening the India-U.S. global strategic partnership, which included agreements on Afghanistan, biological attacks, keeping nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists, as well as other issues, including energy and the global economy.


Michelle Obama visited the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum.

The President’s  45-minute address to the joint session of the Indian Parliament later in the afternoon - in the grand hall of democracy - received multiple rounds of applause, which he concluded with ‘Jai Hind’. The defining moment of his speech and the home-run of the evening was his unexpected endorsement of New Delhi’s long-standing bid for permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council.
